Seiya and Tracy Asanuma
FIELD
While in seminary, Seiya served in a Japanese congregation in Torrance, California as an intern pastor. There he learned the importance of preserving his Japanese identity, which is indispensable to ministering to the people of his own culture here in America. Currently Seiya and Tracy work with Japanese families and housewives in Torrance.
They hold bi-monthly ladies’ Bible study and cooking classes in their home, as well as a bilingual Sunday service in a nearby church. Seiya and Tracy hope to strengthen those who are already believers and lead other to Christ.
Their ministries include:
Sanctuary Japanese Bible Fellowship
Every Sunday a group of Japanese believers meet in a local church for a bi-lingual Sunday worship. They sing Japanese praise songs, pray and study God’s word. Recently a new Christian family has started attending the service. The Y family owns a Christian preschool which they run in Torrance. Many of the children who attend there come from Buddhist families.
Ladies Cooking & Bible Study every other Wednesday
Tracy meets with several Japanese ladies in their apartment. Seiya provides a Japanese devotional, and then the ladies study the passage with Tracy in English. Later they cook together. Some of the things they have made are jam tarts, mac and cheese, and roasted chicken.
FAITH
Seiya first came to church in his home country, Japan, and there, through an ESL program, American missionaries who were his English teachers, significantly impacted his coming to faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 19.
Tracy was born to Christian parents and came to know Jesus as her Savior at an early age. Her faith was solidified when she went to Japan as an exchange student.
Seiya was appointed by Missions Door in March 1998 for the ministry of ethnic church planting (Japanese). After their marriage in 2004, Tracy joined him in the ministry.

Seiya and Tracy were married on August 7, 2004. They have one daughter, Akina Louise, born in 2008.
